How do biogas digesters work?
From cow manure to clean energy
A biogas digester converts a slurry of cow manure and with water into biogas and fertilizer through a natural process.
The manure mixture is fed into the digester, where anaerobic bacteria break down the organic material. This process produces biogas, a mixture of primarily methane and carbon dioxide, which accumulates at the top of the digester and is extracted through an outlet valve for use.
Biogas can be used for various purposes, including cooking, heating, electricity generation, as a vehicle fuel, and in industrial applications, making it a versatile and sustainable energy source.
The remaining material, or digestate, is expelled through a separate outlet and used as a nutrient-rich organic fertilizer.
How do we measure our impact
Nguni Green uses technology to accurately track environmental impact
At Nguni Green, we are dedicated to accurately and transparently measuring the positive environmental impact that our digesters have on the world.
For that reason, we use industry leading and recognized sensors and IOT devices to track the gas produced and used at each digester site.
For each site we are able to provide real time visibility into the gas production and usage over a given period of time allowing us to directly track positive environmental impact
